Andhra Pradesh Beats Maharashtra & Gujarat to Become Top Green Cavendish Exporter in India

  Banana agriculture has grown dramatically from 79,360 hectares in 2014–15 to 1.04 lakh hectares in 2019–20, with a sharp rise in yield to 60 metric tonnes per hectare. The premium Green Cavendish is frequently shipped to the Middle East. The UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Iran are among the countries where exports are increasing.   For the first time, Andhra Pradesh has surpassed Maharashtra and Gujarat as the biggest banana supplier in India , with over 45,000 metric tonnes (MT) exported in the 2019-20 fiscal year. Andhra Pradesh is likely to export over 75,000 MT of Green Cavendish bananas this fiscal year, retaining its position as the leading exporter.   Bananas are a popular crop grown in India's tropical and subtropical regions.
